A three-star defensive back listed the UNC Football program in his Top 3 as his recruitment nears an end with National Signing Day looming

The UNC Football program signed their 2021 recruiting class back in the early signing period in December. Back then, the thought was that this was it for the class which currently ranks in the Top 20 for this 2021 cycle.

But as the weeks have gone on, it doesn’t appear that UNC is done adding to that class.

Three-star defensive back Dontae Balfour has shown interest in North Carolina and with a scholarship open, the Tar Heels have ramped up the pursuit to add another recruit. The Tar Heels would also really like to boost up their secondary going into next season. In his recruitment, Balfour has a total of 21 offers including from some big programs in the SEC.

On Sunday, Balfour made a key update to his recruitment just a week out of National Signing Day by listing his final three teams as his recruitment comes to an end:

North Carolina, Auburn and LSU made the cut for his final three going into signing day and it should be an interesting race to land the recruit. The Tar Heels have come on strong as of late but Auburn appears to be the favorites for the Florida native as of now. Still, I wouldn’t count the Tar Heels out just yet as the Dre Bly effect could loom large on his decision.

Balfour is ranked No. 741 overall, No. 62 defensive back and No. 97 in Florida in the 247 Sports recruiting class. With UNC returning Tony Grimes and Storm Duck as the starters at the cornerback position but adding some more depth would be key for this secondary moving forward.
