UNC Basketball: Vince Carter joins Atlanta Hawks broadcast team
Former UNC basketball standout Vince Carter will work as a television analyst for select Atlanta Hawks games this season.
Vince Carter had a 22-year Hall of Fame caliber career in the NBA. Even though his playing days are over, the former UNC basketball standout is still very much connected to the sport.
It was announced that Carter will be joining the Atlanta Hawks broadcast team for the 2020-2021 season. The now 43-year-old will call games for the franchise that he ended his illustrious career with.
As part of his new role, Carter will work with play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun, analyst and Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins along with sideline reporter Kelly Crull.
Carter is no stranger to the media field. The former Tar Heel serves as a NBA and college basketball analyst for ESPN, and will now add this new venture to his media career resume.
The eight-time All-Star and two-time NBA All-Pro selection made his debut on December 30th when the Hawks squared off against the Brooklyn Nets, another one of Carter’s former teams.
After a bit of a break, Carter will be back on the broadcast team for the Hawks’ Martin Luther King Jr. Day matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 18. He will also be on-air for the team’s contests on January 24 (against the Milwaukee Bucks), February 1 (LA Lakers), and February 3 (Dallas Mavericks).
In a quote from the Atlanta Business Journal, here’s what Carter had to say about his new role on the Atlanta Hawks broadcast team:
"“I’m excited for the opportunity to join Bob and ‘Nique on Hawks broadcasts this season. It’s a great opportunity for me to sharpen my skills breaking down the game and providing analysis for a team that I know so well. I’m looking forward to seeing how the new vets mix in with our young guys as they try to take that next step to making the playoffs.”"
If you want to hear Vince Carter call some basketball games in the near future, make sure you mark the above dates on your calendar.
