It’s early in his recruitment but the Tar Heels might be the team to beat in the race for a five-star point guard in the 2023 class

The UNC Basketball program is navigating through a tough 2020-21 college basketball season with all of the circumstances surrounding the global pandemic. But in addition to this season, Roy Williams and his staff are keeping tabs on future recruiting classes.

With no travel allowed for official visits, UNC and every other school have been forced to conduct virtual visits over Zoom making the evaluations a little difficult. But since the start of the year, Williams and his staff have had their eyes on some recruits including class of 2023 point guard Robert Dillingham.

The Charlotte, North Carolina native announced he received a scholarship offer to UNC on Christmas Eve, a move that many saw coming due to the Tar Heels’ interest. It’s still very early in Dillingham’s recruitment but that UNC offer may have changed things.

Right after Dillingham landed the offer from UNC, the first two Crystal Ball predictions for the recruit were inputed on 247 Sports.

Lead recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer and N.C. State reporter Miles Masercola both logged Crystal Ball predictions for UNC. Meyer is pretty locked in with recruiting, so that’s good news for UNC in terms of their chances to land Dillingham as one national analyst thinks they have the best shot.

The thing to remember with this is that it’s still early in Dillingham’s recruitment. Actually, it’s VERY early in his recruitment as there is a long ways to go. We’d be shocked if he committed this early even without taking any visits.

The other thing to note is that this is still a good sign for UNC. Dillingham is a very important recruit for the Tar Heels and one that is in their own backyard that they cannot let get away.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Dillingham is ranked as a five-star recruit that is ranked No. 10 overall, No. 4 point guard and No. 2 player in the state per 247 Sports recruiting rankings.
