Mack Brown and the UNC Football program have their eyes on a potential transfer target from an Atlantic Coast Conference foe

The UNC Football program just completed a 8-3 regular season here in 2020 and earned an Orange Bowl bid to play against No. 5 Texas A&M on January 2nd. That’s a pretty impressive feat for the Tar Heels in just Mack Brown’s second season in his return to the program.

UNC did it behind an explosive offense that has playmakers at multiple positions. But after this season, the Tar Heels are going to lose some of those playmakers including Dyami Brown, Dazz Newsome, Michael Carter and Javonte Williams.

It will be up to those currently on the roster as well as a 2021 recruiting class to help fill the void for the production. But could Brown and his staff land a transfer to fill their needs? It’s certainly possible and they have their eyes on one already.

According to Corey Bender of Gators Territory, the Tar Heels are one of a few teams that have already reached out to former four-star Florida State recruit Warren Thompson:

Thompson committed to Florida State as part of the 2018 recruiting class but has decided to transfer out of the program after this season. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Thompson will be a big target in the transfer portal and can help fill a void for the Tar Heels at the receiver position.

Despite the interest, it’s still early on in the process for Thompson and we shouldn’t expect a decision anytime soon. However, it’s good news that UNC is involved and shows that they are looking to add more talent to their receiving core.

The Tar Heels were a contender in Thompson’s recruitment and he did make a visit to Chapel Hill back in 2018. He went with the Noles but now UNC has the chance to land him again. This is a player that is certainly worth monitoring as the days go on.
