Heading into the 2020-2021 season, it was very much anticipated that we would see some schedule changes. With the COVID-19 virus impacting our world, schools around the country continue to try their best to handle positive cases that come up within their programs.
On Wednesday, the UNC basketball program found out about their first COVID-19 schedule change.
The Atlantic Coast Conference announced that the Tar Heels upcoming matchup against Syracuse has been postponed. The two ACC schools were supposed to matchup on January 2nd in Chapel Hill to kick off the new year.
Recently, the Syracuse men’s basketball program was put on pause due to COVID-19 protocols. After competing against the University of Buffalo, a Bulls player tested positive for the virus, which forced the Orange to halt their basketball activities for the time being.
This marks the third game that has been postponed for Syracuse. The Orange had two additional ACC contests postponed, as their scheduled contests against Notre Dame and Wake Forrest will also be re-scheduled at a later date.
For the Tar Heels, the postponement means that the Tar Heels will have more time off between ACC contests. Roy Williams’ team is scheduled to play at Georgia Tech on December 30th, and now will not play again until January 5th when they make the trip to Miami.
This marks the first postponed game for the UNC basketball, but there is definitely a possibility that there will be more throughout the season.
