UNC Football: 6 Tar Heels voted to All-ACC teams
By Zack Pearson
Six Tar Heels were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams this week, following their 8-3 season and an Orange Bowl appearance.
The UNC Football program continues to rack up awards as they prepare for their Orange Bowl matchup with Texas A&M on January 2nd.
After finishing 8-3, their best season in years, the Tar Heels are ranked No. 13 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, earning that trip to Miami as the third-highest ranked team in their conference. Getting to the Orange Bowl is a huge feat for the program in Mack Brown’s second stint as head coach.
A big part of the reason why they went 8-3 is due to the talent they have on both sides of the ball and this week they are being rewarded for it. Just a day after the Tar Heels earned six players to the Associated Press’ All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team, the program added some more accolades as 6 players were named All-ACC selections by the conference and an additional 7 were named to honorable selection.
UNC had three first-team All-ACC selections as receiver Dyami Brown, running back Michael Carter and linebacker Chazz Surratt earned that honor. Quarterback Sam Howell and running back Javonte Williams were named to the second team while Carter and offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu were named to the third team. Carter’s third team selection was as an all-purpose back for the conference.
Seven players were also named honorable mention: center Brian Anderson, linebacker Tomon Fox, guard Marcus McKethan, safety Trey Morrison, receiver Dazz Newsome, tackle Jordan Tucker and defensive tackle Ray Vohasek.
This is Surratt’s second-straight First Team selection, earning the honor last season. He led the Tar Heels with 91 tackles, six sacks and was second with 7.5 TFL. Howell was named to the Third Team in 2019 and improved on his impressive first season with an outstanding sophomore campaign.
Carter earned two spots on the team, finishing up his UNC career in style. The running back won’t play in the Orange Bowl but has been fantastic for four seasons in Chapel Hill. Brown has also opted out and received his first All-ACC First Team selection.
