Tony Grimes

Tony Grimes may have had his first “signature moment” as a member of the UNC football program.

Miami was gaining some momentum, as they were able to put together a few scoring drives to begin the second half. After a Tar Heel missed field goal, it appeared as if Miami had an opening to make a comeback.

However, Grimes had different plans.

On the first play after the missed field goal, the Hurricanes attempted to throw the ball down field. Grimes made a fantastic play on the ball, as he was able to rip it out of the receiver’s hands for his first career interception.

Yes, the Tar Heels had a pretty big lead at the time, but the above play served as a huge momentum shift back in favor of the Tar Heels. The offense was able to add more points to the board on the ensuing drive, and it was a play that just made the game finally seem like it was out of reach.

Let’s not forget: Grimes is still only supposed to be a senior in high school! The five-star recruit re-classified to join the Tar Heels early, and he’s definitely seen his fair share of rookie struggles.

However, Mack Brown and his team are hopeful that this is a good sign of things to come for the very talented cornerback.
