Michael Carter and Javonte Williams

You can’t start talking about this game without talking about the dynamic rushing duo of Michael Carter and Javonte Williams.

Simply put, the Tar Heels offense was led by their two running backs. Overall, the duo combined to rush for 544 yards, which is a new FBS record.

After a three-touchdown performance last week, Carter followed it up with yet another outstanding performance. The senior tailback carried the ball 24 times for 308 yards and two touchdowns. The Navarre, FL native averaged 12.8 yards-per-carry.

To go along with Carter’s big day on the ground, Williams had yet another impressive performance of his own. The junior carried the ball 23 times for 236 yards and three scores, and had some runs that drew a lot of attention via social media.

With his three touchdowns, Williams also set a new UNC school record:

In one of the Tar Heels’ biggest games, the team’s running back duo put up their best overall performance. It’s often that one (or both) of these student-athletes end up on our weekly helmet sticker honors list, and after this week’s performance, there’s no doubt that they both deserve the honor once again this week!
