UNC Football: Beau Corrales undergoes season-ending surgery
As it’s been for most of the 2020 regular season, the UNC football program will be without one of their top receivers for the remainder of the way.
The UNC football program now has some clarity in regards to Beau Corrales’ status for the remainder of the 2020 season.
Recently, the senior wide receiver underwent sports hernia surgery, a procedure that will sideline him for the Tar Heels’ final few games.
As per his above Instagram post, Corrales stated that he has been dealing with the injury since prior to the start of the 2020 regular season. Although he tried to battle through the injury, it got to the point where the veteran receiver was unable to suit up for the Tar Heels.
Corrales appeared in five contests this season, but was only a factor in four of them. Overall, he reeled in 13 catches for 238 yards and touchdown.
Fortunately for Corrales, his injury won’t end his time in Chapel Hill. Due to the new NCAA rules that were put in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic, student-athletes have the opportunity to take advantage of an extra year of collegiate eligibility.
Although the majority of the UNC football program’s seniors are planning on departing, Corrales is one of three Tar Heels who stated that they will return for another season.
Now that the surgery is complete, Corrales will have an extended time period to rehab from the injury. Once he’s able to return to the field, expect Corrales to return to his usual role in the Tar Heels’ offense, as he’s grown to be a reliable target for quarterback Sam Howell.
