The UNC Basketball program is showing interest in this five-star recruit and could be the next player they offer in the 2023 class

Roy Williams and his UNC Basketball staff are keeping their eyes out on future recruiting classes despite not being able to go evaluate in person. There are some major needs in terms of depth at positions for future recruiting classes and the biggest might be at guard.

While UNC has R.J. Davis and Caleb Love as their starters on the roster, Love isn’t expected to stay long and Davis could be a player that sees his stock climb after two years. In the 2021 class, UNC doesn’t have a guard signed yet as they have tried to address that with offers in 2022.

But one target down the line in particular is an important name to know and he resides in the Tar Heel state.

Class of 2023 guard Robert Dillingham is a name to keep an eye on in his recruitment for UNC as the Charlotte native has been playing some good basketball this year. The 6-foot-1 point guard currently holds a four-star ranking on 247 Sports and is No. 10 among all prospects in his class.

I know it’s early in his recruitment as he holds just seven offers right now but he’s certainly a player that is drawing interest from the Tar Heels. Dillingham has met with UNC coaches over Zoom in the past few months and last year, assistant Steve Robinson even met with the recruit.

Over the weekend, Dillingham caught the eyes of some national scouts during the Battle at the Rock event in South Carolina. 247 Sports recruiting analyst Travis Branham wrote on the event from Friday night and included Dillingham in his standouts:

"Dillingham is an elite shot-maker and makes for one of the best scorers in all of high school basketball. He’s got a tight handle, is shifty, changing speeds and direction well, making him very effective creating space for jumpers both from mid-range and from three. He knocks down difficult shots consistently and is fearless on the court for just a 2023 prospect. The No. 10 prospect in 2023 currently holds a slew of offers but has recently been hearing from Virginia Tech and North Carolina."

Branham also notes that both UNC and Virginia Tech are pursuing Dillingham right now and have reached out to him recently.

Heck, even former UNC point guard Coby White tweeted his thoughts on the recruit:

That’s certainly good news for UNC fans as they continue their pursuit of an elite in-state guard that should be a big target for them for the next few years. While UNC hasn’t offered just yet, things are moving fast and trending that way.

Next. Will this recruit be the next to earn an offer from UNC. dark
