UNC Football: North Carolina helmet stickers vs. Western Carolina
Sam Howell
Mack Brown and the UNC football program couldn’t have asked for a better performance from Sam Howell.
The sophomore signal-caller completed 20 of his 23 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. He orchestrated the offense, connecting with 9 different receivers through two quarters of play.
As we mentioned earlier, Howell connected with Dazz Newsome on a 26-yard score just prior to the end of the half. That touchdown pass marked the 64th of Howell’s Tar Heel career, tying him for second place on the Tar Heels all-time passing touchdown list.
Not to say that the Tar Heels were looking ahead to next week, but you have to imagine that the Miami Hurricanes are on their minds. As they were heavily favored over Western Carolina, the goal was to get a big lead and get some rest for some of the team’s key players.
Howell got his work in, and was mightily impressive in the process. The Tar Heels scored on six of their first seven possessions, which ended up being enough work for the sophomore quarterback.
Mack Brown and his staff definitely couldn’t have scripted this week better, especially in regards to their star quarterback’s performance. They’ll hope that this will carry over to the team’s regular season finale next weekend.
