UNC Football: Tar Heels schedule future series with Purdue
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football team will take on this Big Ten foe in the 2027 and 2031 seasons according to a new report out on Tuesday
The UNC Football program has two regular season games left plus a bowl matchup for their 2020 season but they are looking ahead in terms of scheduling for future opponents.
As the Tar Heels prepare for Western Carolina on Saturday, they have reportedly reached an agreement to face off against a Big Ten foe twice over the next 11 years. Per FBSchedules, the Tar Heels and Purdue Boilermakers have agreed to a home-and-home schedule in the future.
UNC will head to West Lafayette on Saturday, Sept. 11 2027 to take on the Boilermakers while the two teams will meet in Chapel Hill in Saturday, Sept. 13 2031.
The two schools have yet to officially announce the new series but FBSchedules was able to obtain a copy of the signed agreement. As it stands now, the two teams have yet to meet eachother in football which means the 2027 will be the first meeting ever barring any future bowl meetings.
The Tar Heels have been adding some interesting non-conference opponents to their schedule for the coming years and were supposed to play both UCF and Auburn this season. UNC does have Notre Dame on the schedule in the coming years but will also play South Carolina and Minnesota in 2023.
As for the 2027 season, the Tar Heels are now scheduled to play at Purdue (Sept. 11), at UCONN (Sept. 13) and vs. North Alabama (Sept. 20). The 2031 season will see UNC host both Liberty (Sept. 6) and Purdue (Sept.13).
