Ben Kiernan

In a game in which the Tar Heels were forced to punt seven times, Ben Kiernan ended up being a key contributor in this week’s contest.

The sophomore from Dublin, Ireland made the most of his opportunities on the field. Kiernan’s seven punts traveled for 354 yards, averaging 50.6 yards per-punt. Three of his punts traveled 50 or more yards, and five of the seven landed inside the 20 yard-line.

Kiernan’s success punting the football was huge in regards to Notre Dame’s field position. On multiple occasions, the sophomore punter was able to pin the Fighting Irish deep in their own territory, which definitely was beneficial to the Tar Heels defense.

He may not get the recognition that he deserves, but Ben Kiernan had a standout performance in arguably the Tar Heels’ biggest game of their season so far.
