Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had praise for the Tar Heels’ offense ahead of Friday’s showdown in Chapel Hill

The UNC Football program is just days away from the biggest game of their 2020 college football season. The Tar Heels will welcome in No. 2 Notre Dame on Friday afternoon in a showdown between two Top 25 teams.

At 6-2, the No. 25-ranked Tar Heels have a slim chance at reaching the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game but will need to win out and have some other dominos fall their way at the same time. But even if they don’t reach the title game, UNC is hoping to land in a big bowl game to end their year. That would also require likely winning out.

As we approach Friday afternoon’s big game, the Tar Heels are preparing for what is a very good Notre Dame defense. While UNC’s offense is near or in the Top 10 in a lot of offensive statistics, they will face a tough test in a very good Fighting Irish defense. The Tar Heels are averaging 43.1 points per game through eight so far this season but the Fighting Irish are only allowing 16.6 points per game.

Something has to give.

Going into this matchup, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly offered up some praise for this UNC offense comparing them to one of the best teams in the country over the past few years.

"“They’re an extremely talented team. We’ve played similar teams, Clemson obviously comes to mind as an equally talented football team. Travis Etienne, DJ at quarterback, the wide receiving core. So, some similar talented players on the Clemson football team. Obviously, certainly really deserving of all the accolades in terms of what they’ve accomplished. They don’t go away. They have come back in forth quarters and won football games and they keep playing. It’s an equally dangerous team in terms of the way they keep playing as well.”"

That’s some high praise and company UNC would love to be around. Last year, UNC went toe-to-toe with No. 1 Clemson in Chapel Hill, falling one-point short of pulling off the upset.

Now, they have a chance to shake things up in the College Football Playoff Top 4 as well as put themselves in a position to move up in the rankings. It won’t be easy but we could have a classic on our hands in Chapel Hill on Friday afternoon.
