After a bye week, the UNC Football program jumps back into the AP Top 25 poll that was released on Sunday ahead of their showdown with Notre Dame

The UNC Football program is gearing up for their final three regular season games of the year as they sit at 6-2 and in fourth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Mack Brown’s team isn’t out of the race to reach the conference title game but their chances are slim.

However, the goal for this program is to play in a big bowl game and with two more ranked games left on the schedule, they can achieve that.

While UNC was on their bye this past week preparing for Notre Dame, they actually benefitted from not playing in terms of the Top 25 rankings. With some teams in the Top 25 losing, the Tar Heels actually moved back into the rankings as the Associated Press released the updated version on Sunday afternoon.

UNC checked in at No. 25, two weeks after being ousted from the rankings. Last week they were technically ranked No. 26 as the team receiving the most votes not to be ranked. Check out the rankings below:

As you see, Alabama retained the top spot followed by No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Texas A&M so there really wasn’t a big shakeup there. Some teams did move up in the top 10 with Wisconsin’s loss dropping them to No. 18.

The ACC has a total of four teams ranked as Miami comes in at No. 10 and UNC at No. 25 in addition to Notre Dame and Clemson. The Tar Heels will have their chance to climb the rankings even more starting this week when they host No. 2 Notre Dame. This will be a HUGE game for both programs as College Football Playoff implications are on the line. More importantly, this is a chance for UNC to show they belong on a big stage with a good team.
