UNC Basketball: Tar Heels crack Top 8 for 2022 prospect
By Zack Pearson
Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball program received good news in terms of a four-star shooting guard in the 2022 class
The UNC Basketball program is gearing up for their upcoming 2020-21 season as they begin play next week. But while the countdown continues for that season, they did receive some good news in terms of recruiting.
Roy Williams and his staff have three active offers out to prospects in the 2021 class but it’s the 2022 class that they are starting to focus on more and more.
On Sunday, the Tar Heels were listed in the Top 8 for four-star shooting guard Isaac McKneely as the recruit provided a big update to his recruitment. McKneely will move forward with his recruitment focusing on UNC, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Louisville.
Here is what McKneely tweeted on Sunday:
The Tar Heels were one of the teams to get into McKneely’s recruitment late but have done enough to earn a spot in his Top 8. The same can be said for Kentucky as a few Blue Blood programs are showing interest in the talented gaurd.
McKneely is ranked No. 57 overall, No. 7 combo guard and the No. 1 player in the state of West Virginia per 247 Sports. He has a total of 18 offers in his recruitment but from here on out, it will be those eight schools that will be the priority.
It’s tough to measure where the Tar Heels stand in this recruitment but it’s certainly a great sign that they made this list. This is certainly a recruit to keep an eye on for UNC in the coming months as they are still seeking their first commitment in the 2022 class.
