The UNC Basketball program is among a few teams prioritizing this five-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting rankings but where do they stand?

The options are starting to dwindle down for the UNC Basketball program in the 2021 recruiting class. As of now, the North Carolina Tar Heels have just four active offers out to prospects in the class and have two players committed.

Roy Williams and his staff are hoping to add at least one more player to the class to compliment the additions of D’Marco Dunn and Dontrez Styles. With Trey Kaufman deciding at the end of October, UNC is going to have to start putting the full court press on for some recruits.

Among those that they will need to pursue heavily is five-star guard Hunter Sallis.

The Nebraska native earned an offer from UNC a few months back and has been on their radar for a while now. At one point the Tar Heels were considered the favorites to land him but since then, things have trended the other way. With Blue Blood Kentucky entering the race, many believe it’s the Wildcats that are the team to beat in this recruitment.

Sallis has a total of 26 offers in his recruitment but has narrowed his list down to just 12 schools including the Tar Heels. On Wednesday, Sallis spoke with Kentucky Sports Radio for an exclusive interview and revealed which programs are pursuing him the most:

"Despite the long list of remaining suiters, Sallis singled out a handful of programs that are prioritizing him the most at this point in time, headlined by UK.“I feel like Kentucky is one of them, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Oregon, North Carolina really is, Kansas, and there are a couple more,” Sallis told KSR. “Those are the schools that are showing them they really want me and they have a really big interest in me.”"

It’s good to see UNC still pursuing Sallis heavily and he might be the one recruit that is a must-land for Williams and his staff.

However, they are going to have to makeup some ground. As it stands now, the experts really believe that Kentucky is the team to beat in this recruitment. The Wildcats have landed four Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports and two FutureCasts picks on Rivals. Although these are no guarantee, it may hint as to where Sallis is leaning.

Losing out on Sallis would be huge for the Tar Heels as he’s one of the top point guards in this 2021 recruiting class. Let’s just hope they can make up some ground.
