UNC Basketball: Four-star recruiting target sets announcement date

The UNC Basketball program will soon find out their fate for this four-star power forward in the 2021 recruiting class

The month of October will continue to be an active one in terms of recruiting for the UNC Basketball program as they find out their fate for a few different recruits.

After being left off Bryce McGowen’s Top 5 list on Monday, the Tar Heels now await the decision for five-star combo guard Skyy Clark as he’s set to make his announcement this week. But now, another recruit has decided that it’s time to end his recruitment as well.

Four-star forward Trey Kaufman has set his decision date for October 30th as the prospect out of Indiana is set to make his decision.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Kaufman is set to decide between his five finalists: UNC, Virginia, Purdue, Indiana and Indiana State. He’s ranked as the No. 41 overall prospect, No. 12 power forward and No. 2 player in the state of Indiana per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.

The Tar Heels have shown interest in Kaufman for a while now, watching him play and then finally offering him at the end of July. He took a trip to Chapel Hill over the Summer but did not meet with any staff due to the NCAA’s current restrictions. Kaufman also visited Virginia’s campus on that trip as he wanted to get a look at two potential schools he could be committing to.

Going into next week it’s tough to tell where Kaufman is leaning but the in-state Hoosiers may have the advantage in this one. Can UNC pull him out of the Midwest and add a third player to their 2021 recruiting class? Stay tuned.
