UNC Football player Beau Corrales snags Spotlight of the Week honors despite the Tar Heels’ loss on Saturday to Florida State.

The North Carolina Tar Heels were on the receiving end of an upset loss Saturday night against Florida State University, losing 31-28. This was the first loss of the season for the Tar Heels, dropping to 3-1. There was a bright spot, though. Wide receiver Beau Corrales was the lone standout in the game, earning our Spotlight of the Week.

North Carolina, who went into the second half down 31-7, put up a hard fight scorning 21 unanswered points while holding the Seminoles to zero second half points. The Tar Heels were in striking distance for a chance to tie it or win it late in the game when the ball bounced out of Javonte Williams’s hands-on 4th and 9 with 35 seconds left to play. Despite the shocking loss, this could end up being the game that showcases more of the weapons that Howell has, such as the senior wide receiver Corrales, who ended up shining bright in the loss.

Corrales had arguably his best game since becoming a Tar Heel, racking up 141 receiving yards, snagging four receptions on six targets and a touchdown. Corrales, who is usually in the shadows of dynamic wide receiver duo Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome, took the spotlight this weekend despite having three targets less than Brown and one less than Newsome. He alone had 48 more yards than the duo combined. Corrales made plays all night for the Heels, and raised his draft stock in the process.

The Tar Heels, who came into this matchup ranked fifth, saw their ranking drop after this loss, but with a lot left to still be played, UNC still has hopes of making it to the ACC Championship Game. They will take on rival N.C. State on Saturday, October 24 at noon on ESPN in hopes to get back on track, and improve to 4-1.
