Sam Howell

By far, Howell had his best performance of the season against the Hokies.

Howell was effective and efficient, completing 18 of his 23 passes for 257 yards and three passing touchdowns. The sophomore signal-caller got a handful of Tar Heels involved, as he completed passes to seven different receivers.

Over the first two games of the season, Howell struggled to throw the deep ball, as he was 0-8 on attempts over 20+ yards. In the win against the Hokies, the Indian Trail, NC native was able to rectify that issue a bit, as he completed multiple passes of 20+ yards to help spark the Tar Heels offense.

Without a doubt, the Tar Heels offense had some rust in previous weeks, considering that they had a long layoff between their first and second contests. In this week’s contest, the offense was clicking on all cylinders, and Howell has a lot to do with that success.

This was the Sam Howell that we saw during his freshman season, and this is the Sam Howell the Tar Heels will need if they want to be serious ACC-title contenders later on in the season.
