A 2022 UNC Basketball recruiting target updates his recruitment and which teams are still involved here in the month of October

While the 2021 recruiting class continues to take shape, the UNC Basketball program is starting to make some progress for the 2022 class.

Roy Williams and his staff currently have two recruits committed for the 2021 class, as they hope to build for the future of the program. This year, they are welcoming in a Top 2 class led by six players for 2020.

But as the days go on, more and more comes out about potential 2022 targets.

UNC currently has four offers out to prospects in the 2022 class and one of those targets, Skyy Clark, will make his decision in October. However, things have been a bit quiet with other recruits in the class and it’s tough to tell where the Tar Heels stand.

One of those targets that has an offer is five-star small forward Mark Mitchell. The Mississippi product is ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2022 class per the 247 Sports rankings and he currently has a total of seven offers. But where does he stand in his recruitment?

StockRiser’s caught up with Mitchell earlier in the week to discuss his recruitment and the teams that are still after him. Among the programs he talked about were the Tar Heels who Mitchell says has been in contact with him:

"North Carolina has been heavily involved, what’s their current pitch?Mitchell: “I’ve just been building my relationship with Coach Williams and Coach Robinson and just trying to stay in touch with them as much as possible. They like my game a lot and they hope that I could take a visit when everything opens up.”"

Mitchell’s recruitment is starting to heat up here as the days go by and it’s good to see him mention that UNC is still involved. The Tar Heels have yet to land a commitment in 2022 but are starting to prioritize a few recruits in that class.

UNC will have some tough competition for Mitchell, however and a new blue blood is getting involved as Kentucky has entered the mix. This is a recruitment that could come down to a few blue blood programs including UNC, Kentucky and Duke.
