The UNC Basketball program will await the decision of five-star guard Skyy Clark but could he end up in the 2021 class?

Class of 2022 five-star guard Skyy Clark has been a top target for the UNC Basketball program over the past few months. With a need for some back court depth in future classes, Clark has become a very important recruit for Roy Williams and his staff to land.

The Tar Heels will soon learn their fate in the race for Clark as he announced Wednesday that he will be making his decision on October 22nd. Clark has offers from UNC, Kentucky, Memphis, Arizona, Kansas, Tennessee, Florida State, Michigan, Oregon, and UCLA among others but it appears as if he’s down to just two.

UNC and Kentucky appear to be the favorites going into this recruitment and as of late, it looks like the Tar Heels are the trendy pick.

But will the program that lands Clark get him for the 2022 class or will it be 2021?

Over the past few weeks there has been speculation that Clark could reclassify and move into the 2021 recruiting class. Although Clark hasn’t stated whether or not he will do that, there is some talk about a possible reclassification. But for now, he’s in 2022.

For the Tar Heels, that would be huge news if they could land him.

UNC has just one player committed for the 2021 class as four-star forward Dontrez Styles pledged his commitment in April. They are still pursuing five-star guard Hunter Sallis as well as four-star forward Trey Kauffman and four-star shooting guard D’Marco Dunn. But landing Clark for 2021 would likely rule out Sallis and he could head to Kentucky.

If Clark stays in 2022, it should’t have that much of an impact on Sallis’ decision as he could be a one-and-done player anyway. Either way, landing Clark would be GREAT for the Tar Heels no matter what class he ends up in. They would be getting one of the top recruits in the country and a scorer in their backcourt.
