UNC Football: Mack Brown named to Bobby Dodd Trophy watch list
Mack Brown is one of 13 college football coaches named to the Bobby Dodd Trophy watch list.
The Bobby Dodd Trophy is college football’s most prestigious coaching awards. It is awarded annually to a coach who not only succeeds on the gridiron, but also stresses the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity to their respective student athletes.
In an unprecedented year, 13 coaches have been named to the preseason watch list for the award. One of the coaches on the list is none other than North Carolina’s Mack Brown.
Brown, 69, is one of just four coaches on the list whose team will actually compete this fall. The other nine coaches had their seasons postponed/cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. In his second stint with the Tar Heels, Brown has already made a huge impact on the program. After a 7-6 season in his first year back, there are high expectations for the Tar Heels not only for this upcoming season, but for years to come.
Brown is no stranger to the Bobby Dodd Award. The long-time coach won the award back in 2008 while he was serving as the head coach at the University of Texas.
Here is this year’s Bobby Dodd Award preseason watch list, which features some of the best coaches in all of college football:
Mack Brown, North Carolina
Luke Fickell, Cincinnati
Tom Herman, Texas
Josh Heupel, UCF
Brian Kelly, Notre Dame
Gus Malzahn, Auburn
Bronco Mendenhall, Virginia
Dan Mullen, Florida
Ed Orgeron, LSU
Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma
Nick Saban, Alabama
Kirby Smart, Georgia
Dabo Swinney, Clemson
Brown’s Tar Heels are scheduled to begin the 2020 season on September 12, as they battle Syracuse in an ACC contest in Chapel Hill.
