UNC Basketball: Skyy Clark to stay in Class of 2022
Talented combo guard and UNC Basketball target Skyy Clark will not reclassify to the Class of 2021.
Recently, there was speculation that five-star combo guard and UNC Basketball target Skyy Clark may reclassify to the Class of 2021. With the point guard crop drying out for the rising senior class, some thought it made sense for Clark to start his collegiate career a year early.
Clark recently trimmed his recruiting list to his Top 8 schools. The Tar Heels are still one of the schools on the Tennessee native’s radar.
Although the possibility was there, Clark seems committed to staying in the Class of 2022.
Over the past few days, Clark has made it clear that the current plan is for him not to reclassify. As of this moment, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard has no intent of speeding up his high school career.
However, although he seems to be intent (as of now) to staying in the Class of 2022, you have to figure that a reclassification is still an option. Clark is reportedly taking all the necessary courses he needs to reclassify, so it is possible he could change his mind down the road.
The Tar Heels have shown a lot of interest in Clark, but could be trailing in regards to his recruiting process. According to 247 Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, the Kentucky Wildcats are the favorite to land the combo guard as of now.
For schools recruiting Clark, the five-star guard would be a huge addition regardless of which class he is a part of. With the current 2021 point guard crop drying up, a potential reclassification in a few months could end up making a lot of sense for the rising star prospect.
If he reclassifies to the Class of 2021, it is likely that Clark will become a Wildcat. However, he could really fit in nicely with next year’s recruiting class given the state of the current Tar Heels roster.
With Caleb Love considered a potential “one-and-done” player, Clark could most likely come in and take over the reigns as Roy Williams’ lead guard. He has the ability to fit very nicely in the Tar Heels offensive scheme, and could end up being next in line in regards to the athletic guards who played their college ball in Chapel Hill.
If he stays in the Class of 2022, you have to expect that this could only help the Tar Heels. For now, it appears as if Roy Williams and crew must catch up if they ultimately want to land a commitment from the five-star combo guard.
