The former UNC baseball standout joins an exclusive club in Seattle Mariners history.

During the Seattle Mariner’s Wednesday night games against the Los Angeles Angels, Kyle Seager hit his 200th career home. The towering blast — a 426-foot bomb over the right field wall — came in the third inning of the Mariners’ 7-6 victory.

With his 200th career blast, the 32-year-old joined an exclusive group in Mariners history.

Seager joins Jay Buhner, Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez as the only players to hit 200 home runs with the Mariners organization. The veteran infielder joins this exclusive list that currently features two Hall-of-Famers.

It’s a very impressive feat for the former North Carolina standout. Over his 10 seasons in the big leagues, Seager has put together a solid career. In an organization that is known for shifting players in and out, Seager has become a mainstay in the Mariners’ lineup during his tenure in Seattle.

Over his 1,274 games played, the left-handed hitting third baseman has posted a slash line of .257/.325/.444 over 5,340 plate appearances. He was named an All-Star and a Gold Glove award recipient during the 2014 season.

Along with making Mariners history, Seager has also made Tar Heels history as well. The North Carolina native has hit the most Major League homers by any former UNC player, as he surpassed B.J. Surhoff (188) during the 2019 season. He becomes the first Tar Heel to ever slug 200 home runs in a major league career.
