The UNC Football program is still in the mix for this highly-touted offensive lineman.

Currently, the UNC Football program ranks seventh in the nation for the 2021 recruiting class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. As of now, the Tar Heels have 17 players that are committed to joining the program.

Although Mack Brown and crew are off to a nice start, they are still looking to add more talent to the mix, especially at the offensive line position. At this point, the Tar Heels only have two offensive line commitments for this class, and are still recruiting some of the nation’s top players at the position.

This week, the program got some good news regarding one of the offensive lineman that they have heavily recruited.

On social media, offensive guard Yousef Mugharbil announced his Top 7 schools, which included the Tar Heels. Along with North Carolina, Mugharbil declared that Florida, Louisville, North Carolina State, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are his other options.

The Tar Heels have shown interest in Mugharbil for over a year now. Back in February of 2019, the 6-foot-five guard made an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill. A day after the visit, the Tar Heels made an official scholarship offer.

The Tar Heels have done a great job so far in gaining commitments from the state’s top talent. According to 247 Sports, the Tar Heels currently have commitments from 11 of North Carolina’s top 20 ranked prospects, and the number could increase with a commitment from Mugharbil, who is ranked No. 16 overall on the list.

Here’s what Barton Simmons, Director of Scouting at 247 Sports, had to say about the Murphy, North Carolina native:

"Thick but not oversized as an offensive line prospect. Length and skillset could push him more towards the offensive interior. Nasty run blocker that plays through the whistle. Seeks second level defenders with urgency. Athletic enough to keep his feet and find additional work as a downfield blocker. Very inexperienced as a pass blocker but shows an effective kick step against suspect pass rush threats. Not a sudden mover at the snap. Needs to be more active with his hands. Can get top heavy at times. You don’t see him move big bodies as a high school run blocker."

Being included in Mugharbil’s top 7 is definitely a good sign for the Tar Heels. As the recruiting period goes along, expect the Tar Heels to heavily pursue this highly-regarded in-state talent.
