Roy Williams and the UNC Basketball program are recruiting this five-star target hard as he reveals in a recent blog post

The UNC Basketball program received some big news last Friday when five-star 2022 target Caleb Houstan made it official and reclassified to 2021. With Houstan moving to the 2021 class, the Tar Heels now have eight scholarship offers out to prospects in that cycle.

Roy Williams and his staff have made Houstan a priority for 2022 and that will continue with his switch to 2021.

The power forward is set to enter his final season at Montverde Academy in Florida and his recruitment will start to heat up in the coming weeks. Houstan has a total of 12 offers including one from the Tar Heels and will be a top target for many.

But which programs are really pursuing him hard?

Houstan answered that along with providing an update to where things stand now following his move into 2021 in his latest blog entry with Sports Illustrated. He mentions a couple of teams that are pursuing him hard, including the Tar Heels:

"As for my recruitment, it hasn’t really affected me at all. All of the coaches were very happy that they would be able to get me on campus a year earlier. I’ve done a few Zoom calls with Michigan, Oregon, Arkansas, Arizona and Texas and I would say that they’ve all been coming hard along with Virginia, Duke and North Carolina."

Along with UNC, programs like Duke, Arizona, Gonzaga, and Virginia are big players in his recruitment. Houstan is currently ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect, No. 4 power forward and No. 1 player in the state by 247 Sports.

As for where he stands in his recruitment, it doesn’t appear as if he will come to a decision anytime soon. He went on to say that he will continue to talk and build relationships but there is no rush to cut a list or make a decision.
