A top UNC basketball target in the 2022 class has officially announced that he will reclassify into the 2021 recruiting class

Before Friday the UNC Basketball program had extended a total of four offers out to recruits in the 2022 recruiting class. But now with some big news from that class on Friday, you can make that three.

One of North Carolina’s top targets in the 2022 class is reclassifying and moving into 2021 as five-star power forward Caleb Houstan announced his decision to reclassify.

The move came early Friday morning for Houstan:

This now changes things for the Tar Heels and their 2021 recruiting class which stands at nine offers.

Houstan is still among the top targets for the Tar Heels in the 2021 class, officially offering the recruit back in January. But while UNC may have been an early favorite, things are starting to heat up in Houstan’s recruitment.

He has a total of 12 offers so far in his recruitment and other Blue Blood programs are also getting involved. Houstan was one of the players that Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans wrote on in one of his latest articles.

Here is what Evans said of Houstan:

"Caleb Houstan’s recruitment has gone through the roof in recent months. Practically all of the blueblood programs, save Kentucky, have jumped into the picture with an offer, and options will not be hard to come by for the top-five forward.College seems to be the most likely landing spot for Houstan, compared to the four others rated ahead of him. North Carolina was in a great spot for him earlier in the spring, but don’t discount Arizona, Duke, Gonzaga, Michigan, Michigan State or Oregon, now that they have offered."

It sounds like UNC is still in good shape for Houstan despite the reclassification but they will have to fight off some tough competition down the stretch here. There is also no indications that Houstan will make a decision anytime soon in terms of committing.
