UNC Basketball: Tar Heels playing in the NBA Bubble
Danny Green
Team: Los Angeles Lakers
Current Record: 49-14
Playoff Position: First in Western Conference (Clinched Playoff Spot)
When the NBA season resumes, the Los Angeles Lakers will use their eight seeding games as a final tune-up before the start of the postseason.
With a 5 1/2 game lead for the conference’s top spot, the Lakers’ playoff position seems to be secure. As the postseason draws near, the Lakers are projected as one of the favorites to win the NBA title.
One player who could help them bring home their first championship since 2010 is former Tar Heel Danny Green.
For starters, Green has a ton of playoff experience under his belt. The 33-year-old is a two-time NBA Champion, most recently winning a title with the Toronto Raptors last season. He also spent eight seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and saw a ton of playoff action during that span.
Three-point shooting is an area where Green can definitely help the Lakers. In 61 games this season, Green has shot just under 38 percent from beyond-the-arc. His ability to shoot the ball can help spread the floor, and if he starts knocking down shots, it will open up more opportunities for his teammates.
With a veteran roster with a lot of star power, expect this Lakers team to make a deep postseason run. It’s safe to say that no former Tar Heel player is more important to their current team than Danny Green is to this Lakers squad.
