A top UNC Basketball target in the 2021 recruiting class says the Tar Heels are calling him the most right now in his recruitment

The UNC Basketball program is ramping up their pursuit of 2021 recruits as they look to build on their Top 2 class from the 2020 cycle.

Roy Williams and his staff have eight active offers out to recruits in the class with one commitment. Four-star power forward Dontrez Styles was the first to commit to the 2021 class as the Tar Heels were able to land the in-state recruit back in April.

But the Tar Heels are hoping to add more to their class and hope to get at least one five-star recruit committed.

One big target for the Tar Heels is five-star point guard Kennedy Chandler. The Kansas native is ranked No. 11 overall, No. 1 at his position and No. 1 player in the state per the 247 Sports Composite rankings. He has a total of 27 offers so far but recently narrowed his list down to five schools including the Tar Heels.

On Friday, 247 Sports analyst Travis Branham caught up with Chandler to break down his recruitment and which schools are pursuing him the most. On that topic Chandler revealed that the Tar Heels are the school that is contacting him the most right now during his recruitment:

"“Coach Roy Williams, they call me the most probably out of all of the schools and they are hard on recruiting me. I’ve been watching them for a little while with Coby White and Cole Anthony. They let their guards do what they need to do, get everybody involved, pick-and-rolls, I like the way they run their game.”"

That’s certainly good news.

While rumors floated that Chandler could be on commitment watch as early as next week, the recruit also said in the article that he wants to see all five of his final schools before making a decision. However, with a recruiting dead period in place until the end of August at the earliest, it might be hard for Chandler to do that quick.

That could mean we are headed for a late Fall or early Winter decision from Chandler.
