The UNC Football program appears to be losing momentum in the race for four-star defensive  as he is set to make his decision Sunday

The month of July is an important one for the UNC Football program despite the recruiting “dead” period still imposed by the NCAA. Even with no travel to see recruits, the Tar Heels had the chance to land a few more recruits for their 2021 class.

With five-star defensive back Tony Grimes reclassifying to 2020, these recruits became that much more important for the Tar Heels.

On Sunday, four-star defensive end George Wilson is set to make his decision between a few teams including North Carolina, South Carolina and Penn State. The Virginia Beach native is ranked No. 337 nationally, No. 23 at his position and No. 9 in the state per the 247 Sports Composite rankings.

Going into the weekend, you had to feel good about UNC’s chances. They picked up two Crystal Ball predictions and were trending in the right direction.

But that changed on Friday night.

All of a sudden, South Carolina took the lead in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor with two experts making their picks. Both Brian Dohn and Steve Wiltfong, recruiting analysts on 247 Sports, switched their picks from North Carolina to South Carolina. Although the confidence is at a 5 for both, this isn’t a good sign for the Tar Heels.

I don’t know what caused the latest shift in the recruitment but it appears as if UNC is now on the outside looking in to land Wilson.

The recruit will announce on Sunday afternoon and at this point, it doesn’t look good for the Tar Heels.
