Commitments (1)

The Tar Heels have one lone recruit so far in the 2021 recruiting class but it’s not time to panic just yet. It’s still VERY early in this cycle and there are 10 more months until things are wrapped up.

That lone commit is four-star forward Dontrez Styles.

The North Carolina native hails out of Kinston, a place the Tar Heels have found success on the recruiting trail before with Jerry Stackhouse and Reggie Bullock. Styles offered his verbal commitment to UNC back in April getting them their start in this cycle.

Styles is ranked No. 53 overall by 247 Sports’ Composite rankings and is the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina. Being the lone commitment, the recruit is doing his best to bring in more talent to the program and has taken it on himself to recruit other players.

The 6-foot-6 power forward gives UNC a legit option on the wing, a place of need for the program as early as 2020. With Walker Kessler, Day’Ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot in the paint for 2021, Styles may move to more of a small forward role allowing one of those three to play power forward. It will be interesting to see what Williams decides to do with that.
