Ziaire Williams picks Stanford

After months of speculation as to where he will go, five-star recruit Ziaire Williams made his decision on Easter Sunday and decided to stay close to home on the West Coast. Williams announced that he will be attending Stanford this Fall picking the Cardinal over North Carolina, USC, UCLA, and Arizona.

Williams’ recruitment was an interesting one to say the least.

Early on it appeared as if UNC was the heavy favorite to land the No. 5 ranked recruit in the 2020 class. Williams took two official visits and an unofficial to Chapel Hill in his recruitment, making the trip across the country to check out the program. Doing that had many thinking he would pick UNC but as time went on, that didn’t appear to be the case. Instead, the trend in his recruitment pointed to him staying on the West Coast with Stanford, USC, and Arizona emerging as the favorites.

In the end, Williams did stay on the West Coast and picked Stanford. But that could have a big impact on the Tar Heels later in the month. With Williams out of the picture early in April, the Tar Heels could reel in another recruit as they focus on a four-star shooting guard.
