UNC Football: Tar Heels flip Alabama QB commit Drake Maye
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football program has flipped four-star quarterback commit Drake Maye from Alabama on Friday afternoon
It wasn’t long ago that Mack Brown and his staff at North Carolina were able to flip four-star quarterback Sam Howell from Florida State. The move paid off big time as Howell was fantastic in his freshman season in Chapel Hill.
On Friday, Brown and his staff learned of another big quarterback recruit that flipped his commitment to North Carolina. Four-star quarterback in the Class of 2021 Drake Maye announced his has flipped his commitment from Alabama to North Carolina.
Maye posted this message on Twitter Friday afternoon, making his verbal commitment to North Carolina:

Maye originally committed to Alabama back in July of 2019, picking the Crimson Tide over offers from North Carolina, Georgia, Clemson and more. Since then, Maye has visited UNC a few times and most recently was on campus when his older brother Luke, a UNC Basketball standout, was honored at halftime of a basketball game a few weeks back.
From there the rumblings about a possible decommitment started to brew and it came to fruition on Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Maye is ranked as a four-star recruit and the No.56 overall player in the 2021 class by 247 Sports. He’s the No. 6 Pro-Style quarterback and the No. 3 player in the state of North Carolina. He becomes the seventh member of UNC’s 2021 class and all seven are in-state recruits and the commitment comes just a few days after four-star defensive end Keeshawn Silver committed.
Maye is the son of former UNC quarterback Mark Maye, the brother of former UNC Basketball standout Luke Maye as well as former University of Florida baseball player Cole Maye. Both of Maye’s brothers have won national championships in their respective sports.
With the addition of Maye, UNC’s 2021 football class is now ranked No. 6 nationally.
