The UNC Football program will receive a visit from one of the top players in the 2021 recruiting class this Spring, some big news for Mack Brown

Coming off a 7-6 season and winning their first bowl game since 2013, anticipation for the 2020 college football season is high for the North Carolina Tar Heels football program.

Going into his second season in his second stint as head coach, Mack Brown and his staff have a Top 20 recruiting class coming in and big goals. With the majority of the starters coming back from last season’s team, UNC has a chance to do something special in 2020.

But before that, the Tar Heels continue to work on their 2021 recruiting class which is currently No. 11 early in the recruiting cycle. UNC has six commitments, all from the state of North Carolina, and still have plenty of targets left on their recruiting board.

One of UNC’s top targets remaining is five-star defensive back Tony Grimes. The 6-foot, 180-pound Virginia native is ranked No. 7 overall in the 247 Sports Composite rankings for the 2021 class and the No. 1 defensive back. Grimes has a total of 41 offers including from North Carolina, Alabama, Clemson, Penn State, Ohio State, Georgia and LSU among others.

Grimes revealed that he plans on announcing his decision on December 1 which would allow him to enroll early. But with a stacked lineup of offers, where do the Tar Heels stand in the recruitment? Well, they received some good news over the weekend.

Per Adam Friedman of Rivals, Grimes will be on UNC’s campus for a visit on the weekend of March 20:

That’s some big news for the Tar Heels who are considered a serious contender to land this defensive back. Getting him on campus again is huge and gives the Tar Heels the chance to impress Grimes ahead of his decision in December.

While there is a long way to go in the recruitment, landing a player like Grimes could be a program-changer for the Tar Heels. They already have a solid start to their 2021 class and are finalists for both Payton Page and Keeshawn Silver.
