UNC basketball will be without senior shooting guard and starter Brandon Robinson after he sustained a sprained right ankle on Saturday night.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will be without senior starter Brandon Robinson on Monday night when they travel to Tallahassee to take on the fifth-ranked Florida State Seminoles. Robinson sustained an injury with just 17 seconds left to play in the Tar Heels’ Saturday night loss to Boston College at the Dean Smith Center.

While attempting to block a go-ahead three-point attempt, Robinson was called for a foul and subsequently injured his right ankle. The contact between he and Boston College’s Jared Hamilton — which the latter appeared to initiate — caused Robinson to fall to the court in obvious pain. After several moments on the floor, he was helped off the court by UNC’s K.J. Smith and Brandon Huffman. He was putting almost no weight on the affected leg as he hobbled off the court and into the North Carolina locker room.

X-rays were taken immediately following the game, and came back negative. He was diagnosed with a sprained ankle, and will be forced to miss his sixth game of the season on Monday night. He missed four games due to a sprained right ankle that he suffered in an exhibition game against Winston-Salem State on November 1. He also missed the Tar Heels’ January 22 game against Virginia Tech with neck soreness due to a car accident that he was involved in 11 days prior.

Robinson is averaging 13.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 16 starts for the Tar Heels this season. He’s shooting 35.3 percent from three-point range, and a career-best 82.1 percent the free throw line. He’s scored double-digit points in nine consecutive games, including 27 against Clemson and a career-high 29 against Miami.

Junior guard Andrew Platek will likely get the start against Florida State with Robinson sidelined. Senior reserves Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce will be called on for additional minutes off the UNC bench while Robinson is out of the lineup. We don’t yet have a time frame for how long Robinson will be out of the rotation, but hopes are that he will be healthy for the Tar Heels’ game against Duke on Saturday.
