Three UNC Baseball players received some honors following the 2019 college baseball season, including a freshman sensation
The 2019 college baseball season is over for the North Carolina Tar Heels but the awards keep coming.
Just a few days after UNC lost their Super Regional series to Auburn in Chapel Hill, a trio of Diamond Heels were honored by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association in the form of the All-Region Team.
The list is headlined by freshman standout Aaron Sabato who has racked up the awards following a fantastic fist year in Chapel Hill. Sabato has already been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year as well as the National Co-Freshman of the Year. Now he can add in the accolade of the All-Region Team.
Sabato along with infielder Michael Busch were selected to the NCAA Div. I Atlantic All-Region First Team. The Atlantic is one of eight regions represented for the award in the country.
Both players were big bats in UNC’s lineup this season and a big reason why they reached the Super Regional round for the second-straight year. Sabato hit .343 with 63 RBI’s and set a program record with 18 home runs as a freshman. Busch hit .284 with 57 RBI’s and 16 home runs as a junior.
Their teammate, pitcher Tyler Baum, was named to the Atlantic All-Region Second Team.
Baum was really good for most of the season for the Tar Heels, developing into one of their best pitchers along with Austin Bergner. In 93 innings pitched, Baum finished with a 7-3 record with an ERA of 3.87, striking out 99 and walking just 25.
Busch was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first round of the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft while Baum was selected by the Oakland A’s.
