The kickoff time for UNC’s Football game against South Carolina to open up the 2019 season has officially been announced

As the calendar flips to June on Saturday, we are inching closer and closer to the start of the 2019 college football season. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they will begin a new era under head coach Mack Brown who is in his second stint with the program.

Brown has the tough task of getting the program back to their winning ways and reaching a bowl game, something they failed to do in the previous two years.

It won’t be easy but the head coach is already making some progress in terms of his 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes. Brown was able to turn out a respectable 2019 class despite being on the job for just a few months. His 2020 recruiting class is currently ranked in the Top 10 and has the potential to be one of the best in a long time for the program.

But all of that has to translate over to the field and the Tar Heels have to start winning games.

UNC will have their first chance to pickup a win on August 31st when they take on South Carolina in Charlotte as part of the Belk Bowl College Kickoff. The Tar Heels have known for months now who their opponent was to start the season but now they know the kickoff time.

The program announced on Thursday afternoon that the Week 1 showdown against the Gamecocks will be a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff and will be broadcasted live on ESPN:

The last time these two teams met was in Week 1 of the 2015 season when South Carolina beat the Tar Heels 17-13 in Charlotte. UNC would go on to win 11 straight games en-route to winning the Coastal Division and earning a spot in the ACC Championship Game.

UNC fans will remember that as a game that got away from the Tar Heels. Quarterback Marquise Williams threw for 232 yards but did have 3 interceptions, including two in the end zone, one on the opening drive and one on the final drive. Williams would rebound to have a nice season and was a big part of why UNC won 11-straight games and was ranked No. 11 at one point.

With the new time announced, we now know the times for four of UNC’s games this season including the first three.
