One of the top targets for the UNC Basketball program was named a standout at a recent AAU session in Kansas City

It’s still very early on the 2019 AAU circuit for recruits and there is a long way to go, but this past weekend’s three events brought some relevant news.

University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams was out and about last weekend watching several recruits including Jaden Springer, Donovan Johnson, Jabari Smith, Day’Ron Sharpe, and a few others over the three-day period. The Tar Heels have shown significant interest in those recruits plus several others as they look to get started on their 2020 and 2021 classes.

One of those recruits had a big day on the Under Armour Association Session II in Kansas City over the weekend.

Springer was with his AAU team, B Maze Elite, and he flat out put on a show. He was one of the best players on the court in every game he played in and earned some praise from a national recruiting analyst.

Brian Snow of 247 Sports laid out his Top 10 performers from the UAA Session II with Springer right at the top of the list.

Here is what Snow had to say about the recruit:

"He is one of the best players in the country, and Springer did nothing but improve his stock over the weekend. Running with B Maze Elite, Springer was absolutely dominant. He showed his high level athleticism, an ability to really score, and also he makes others around him better. Springer was one of the most complete players all weekend long, proved his spot among the elite in the country is well deserved. Look for the few remaining schools that haven’t offered Springer to do so, and for him to be one of the hottest commodities heading into the summer."

Springer is a five-star shooting guard that has 17 offers so far in his recruitment, including picking up a recent one from UNC. Other schools involved include N.C. State, Kansas, Kentucky, Auburn, Tennessee and Maryland.

He has taken one official visit as he went to Tennessee on March 1st. But since then, nothing has been scheduled or taken. The five-star recruit will likely take one to UNC before his recruitment is over.

As it stands now, the Tar Heels appear to be the favorites in the race for Springer as they have all three Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports including one from analyst Jerry Meyer.

There is still a long way to go in his recruitment but UNC has to feel good about where they stand for this rising prospect.
