Roy Williams was among the coaches in Kansas City on Friday night to watch this 5-star UNC basketball target play

North Carolina’s Roy Williams was among a star-studded cast of Division I head coaches in Kansas City on Friday night to watch 5-star prospect Jaden Springer.

Springer and his team, B Maze Elite, were taking part in the Midwest leg of the Under Armor Association held at Hy-Vee Arena — formerly known as Kemper Arena — home of the 1988 Final Four. Along with Williams was Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl, Michigan’s John Beilein, Tennessee front man Rick Barnes and first-year Vanderbilt head coach Jerry Stackhouse.

Rivals recruiting analyst Eric Bossi was also in Kansas City on Friday to take in the festivities, and shed some light on what figures to be one of the most heated recruiting battles among prospects in the class of 2020.

"“At least early on in his recruitment, 5-star scorer Jaden Springer has been considered to be a dude that Tennessee is in really good shape for,” Bossi said. “I don’t doubt that the Vols are in there deep and Rick Barnes made sure to be on hand for Springer on Friday night. But, I think this one is a lot more open than advertised.”"

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Springer is preparing for his senior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He’s already got scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, North Carolina, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among others. He’s also receiving interest from Kentucky and Louisville, who could also end up being major players in his recruitment before it’s all said and done.

"“Springer had to work at times, but he put up big numbers as a scorer, assist man and rebounder,” Bossi said. “Gaining consistency with the jumper should remain a point of emphasis moving forward but man, he has a knack for hitting tough shots. The overriding point here, though, is that I feel Springer’s recruitment is going to be a battle royale at the highest level.”"

Springer is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the fourth-ranked shooting guard, and the No. 3 player in the state of Florida. Things with his recruitment are really just starting to heat up, so don’t expect a decision any time in the near future.
