A future UNC Basketball target could reclassify from the 2021 class into 2020 which could benefit the Tar Heels

With the North Carolina Tar Heels beginning to wrap up their 2019 recruiting class, the focus will shift on future classes. There is still the decision of five-star forward Precious Achiuwa and transfer Christian Keeling left this May but UNC has to feel good about the class either way.

As for 2020, the Tar Heels do have four-star center Day’Ron Sharpe verbally committed to their class, earning that commitment on Father’s Day in 2018. UNC is also pursuing several other top recruits in the class and will add to it.

The 2021 class will also start heating up this Summer in terms of UNC watching prospects and possible visits getting going. Head coach Roy Williams has already been working on the recruiting circuit, watching Jaden Springer on Friday night.

Williams has shown significant interest in guards in future classes despite having Anthony Harris and Leaky Black Cole Anthony is projected to be a one and done so there is still room to add for the future of the position.

One player Williams has shown interest in is 2021 point guard Cam Hayes. The in-state guard has received significant interest from schools like Duke, N.C. State, Clemson and Tennessee, with the Tar Heels also being interested in him. Hayes is currently slotted in the 2021 class but there is a chance he could move to 2020.

According to StockRisers, teams have asked Hayes about showing interest in moving to the 2020 class. Here is what Stockrisers said:

"With that being said, several coaches recruiting him, said they think he’s ready and should consider a reclass to 2020.“It’s a strong possibility, a lot of the schools recruiting me have asked me about reclassifying back up [to 2020],” Hayes said."

The Tar Heels have yet to offer Hayes but he did say in the article that UNC is aware of the situation and are still in pursuit.

For the Tar Heels, the chance to add a point guard to their 2020 class that has Day’Ron Sharpe already signed would be ideal. But there is still a long way to go in the process.
