Five-star combo guard Cole Anthony talks about his recruitment and what he wants in the school he decides to attend

Combo guard Cole Anthony is one of the top recruits in the 2019 recruiting class and the North Carolina Tar Heels have him as one of their top targets.

After Anthony took a visit to UNC a month ago, he listed the Tar Heels in his top 6 as he made an update to his recruitment. UNC joined Oregon, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Wake Forest and Miami in that top 6 and right now, you’d have to believe the Tar Heels are one of the front runners.

Other than UNC, Anthony has only taken an official visit to Notre Dame but could take his final four before his recruitment is over.

We wrote on Anthony telling Adam Zagoria that he plans on signing in the Spring, so there’s a long way to go in his recruitment until he makes that decision. But on Tuesday, Anthony talked about his recruitment and what he wants for the team he eventually picks when the time is right.

Speaking with Langston Wertz Jr. of the News & Observer, Anthony talked about wanting to go to a school where he can be an impact freshman.

“I want a team where I can come in and be an impact freshman, and the ball will be in my hands, and we have a chance to make it to the Final Four,” he said via Wertz Jr.’s article.

When reading that quote, it’s clear that the Tar Heels are a fit for what Anthony wants.

With only five-star center Armando Bacot and three-star point guard Jeremiah Francis verbally committed, Anthony would have the chance to come in and make an impact right away. He would be the highlight of UNC’s recruiting class and one of the top freshman they have signed under head coach Roy Williams.

As for making a Final Four run, UNC could be in position to do that next year.

Even with Nassir Little likely being a one-and-done player, the Tar Heels could return Coby White and are expected to return Sterling Manley, Garrison Brooks, Seventh Woods, Rechon Black while adding Bacot, Anthony and Francis.

Anthony could be a dynamic player for this program and certainly would have a huge impact on the team.

UNC will have to continue to wait for Anthony’s decision and it could be a long winter while they do.
