Cole Anthony’s high school coach provided an update on when the guard plans to sign with a college, giving us a hint of when he will announce

Combo guard Cole Anthony is one of the best players in the 2019 recruiting class, emerging to near the top of the list with his play over the past year.

He’s become one of the most sought after recruits with his ability to score from almost anywhere on the court and will likely be a one-and-done player in this recruiting class. Anthony has certainly caught the attention of the North Carolina Tar Heels and head coach Roy Williams, as they have him as one of their top priorities left in their 2019 class.

Williams has pushed hard for Anthony, meeting with him and showing up to watch him on the AAU Circuit.

Anthony recently took his official visit to UNC in early October and listed the Tar Heels along with Oregon, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Wake Forest and Miami in his final six. UNC appears to be the frontrunners in the race to land Anthony but there’s still a long way to go in his recruitment.

Adam Zagoria of Zag’s Blog caught up with Anthony and his high school teammate Kofi Cockburn at Oak Hill Academy to break down their recruitment.

Oak Hill head coach Steve Smith told Zagoria that he plans on signing in the Spring period, with a decision coming sometime between now and when the period ends on May 15th:

"Both Anthony and Cockburn will sign with colleges in the spring, Oak Hill coach Steve Smith told ZAGSBLOG.The NCAA early signing period runs Nov. 14-21, while the late period runs April 17-May 15."

So far, Anthony has only taken official visits to UNC and Notre Dame but there’s still a ton of time in his recruitment.

As it stands, UNC is the favorites in the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor with a 67% prediction rate compared to Duke’s 37. The Blue Devils didn’t make the final list for Anthony, so everything appears to be working in UNC’s favor.

With guard Boogie Ellis likely picking Duke on Friday night due to playing time concerns if Anthony picks the Tar Heels, it’s going to be critical for UNC to get Anthony when he announces down the road. There’s a need for perimeter scoring in this 2019 class and Anthony can deliver that.
