UNC hoops kicks off the 2018-19 season with Late Night With Roy

The University of North Carolina will host its annual Late Night With Roy event on Friday night in the Dean E. Smith Center.

The event is in its 16th season, and marks the unofficial start of college basketball in Chapel Hill. It will be the first time that fans are able to get a glimpse of the 2018-19 Tar Heels as they compete in basketball skills challenges, dances, skits and a scrimmage.

Friday night will also be the first time that fans are able to get a live look at the Tar Heels’ talented freshman class led by five-star players Nassir Little and Coby White.

The school announced last week that this year’s show would be hosted by former UNC Basketball standout Antawn Jamison, and former UNC swimming standout Molly Sullivan.

Jamison was the 1998 National Player of the Year, and made consecutive Final Four appearances in 1997 and 1998. He was selected fourth overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 1998 NBA Draft before a trade for Vince Carter sent him to Golden State. The two-time All-Star retired from the game of basketball in 2014.

Sullivan was an ACC champion swimmer during her time at North Carolina, and was a four-time NCAA qualifier in the 1650 freestyle. She ended her career at UNC as the fastest miler in school history. In the time since, she’s worked as host and reporter for a variety of sporting events and outlets.

According to the school’s official athletic website, doors will open at 4 p.m. and admission for the event is free. The Lady Tar Heels volleyball team will host Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. followed by Late Night With Roy. The women’s basketball team will begin at approximately 7 p.m., and the men’s team at 7:30 p.m.

The first 3,500 fans in attendance will receive a special edition towel to commemorate the newly rebranded Roy Williams Court. Public parking lots will open at 5 p.m., and the cost is $10 per car.
