Where does the newest UNC Basketball commit Armando Bacot rank? 247 Sports updated its 2019 recruiting rankings on Wednesday and he made a jump

It’s been nearly a week since the North Carolina Tar Heels were able to land a verbal commitment from class of 2019 big man Armando Bacot. The commitment was the first five-star post player for UNC since Tony Bradley Jr.

To say it was a big get for Roy Williams is an understatement.

After months of pursuing Bacot, Williams landed the recruit and added to his 2019 recruiting class which already has point guard Jeremiah Francis verbally committed. Williams is off to a good start with a Top 10 class and it’s expected to get even better as the months go on.

Bacot has elevated his game over the past few months including winning MVP of Nike’s Peach Jam in July. He’s become a five-star player that has now climbed the rankings and making a push for the Top 15 when it’s all said and done.

On Wednesday, 247 Sports updated its recruiting rankings for the 2019 basketball class and Bacot made a move up in the rankings.

Bacot jumped five spots from the previous rankings released weeks ago, going from No. 34 into the top 30 at No. 29. It should be noted that Bacot is also ranked No. 23 in the 247 Sports composite rankings which uses a special formula to create their list.

He’s also listed as the eighth-best center in the 2019 class, behind UNC targets Will Baker and Vernon Carey Jr., although some of the players ahead of Bacot could be power forwards as well.

While there’s good news on Bacot, the news on Francis isn’t so good. The point guard dropped 59 spots in the rankings from No. 50 to No. 109.

He’s still a four-star player but after missing his entire junior season plus the AAU circuit, Francis’ ranking has taken a tumble. The Ohio native recently underwent surgery again but hopes to be ready to play when he arrives on campus in Summer of 2019.

Even with Bacot and Francis verbally committed, Williams is still pursuing several players in the class.

His targets include Cole Anthony (No. 2), Vernon Carey Jr. (No. 3), Matthew Hurt (No. 8), Josh Green (No. 15), Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (No. 18), Tre Mann (No. 23), Wendell Moore (No. 27) and Will Baker (No. 28).

Anthony climbed from No. 3 to No. 2 in the rankings but the biggest mover that is a UNC target was Mann who jumped eight spots from No. 31 to No. 23. Mann has an official visit set to UNC for September.
