UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot to announce decision on Thursday
By Zack Pearson
Class of 2019 UNC Basketball recruiting target Armando Bacot will announce his verbal commitment on Thursday night
The North Carolina Tar Heels will soon find out if they have landed a big center in the 2019 recruiting class after months of pursuing him.
It’s been known that five-star center Armando Bacot would likely make a decision on a school ahead of the early signing period in November. But now we officially know when.
According to Bacot, he will officially announce his verbal commitment on Thursday night at 5 p.m. EST as revealed on his Twitter account. Bacot will pick between his final five schools in UNC, Duke, VCU, Georgia and Oklahoma State Thursday making one of those programs the lucky winners in his recruitment.
Bacot hasn’t taken any official visits to those five schools but has made plenty of unofficial visits with most coming to Duke and UNC. The center was once considered a heavy Duke lean in his recruitment, visiting the Blue Devils unofficially a few times early in his recruitment.
But in February, things started to change.
Following a visit to Chapel Hill for a UNC-Duke game, the predictions in Bacot’s Crystal Ball changed and shifted to the Tar Heels. With Roy Williams putting on the full court press, Bacot started to show more interest in the Tar Heels.
Williams watched Bacot during the July open evaluation period as the recruit was named the MVP of the Nike Peach Jam. Bacot’s strong play caught the attention of several recruiting analysts and he’s considered one of the top big men in this class.
As for where we stand today, it appears Bacot is destined to land at UNC.
The current Crystal Ball prediction is in favor of the Tar Heels at 100 percent including picks today from 247 Sports recruiting analyst Evan Daniels, Duke reporter John Watson and recruiting analyst Josh Gershon. Daniels reported early Wednesday morning that he thinks the Tar Heels land Bacot eventually.
It would shock us if Bacot didn’t pick UNC on Thursday afternoon and a verbal to Williams could have already happened before the team left for the Bahamas. We won’t know officially until tomorrow but weirder things have happened.
