The lone commit in the UNC Basketball 2020 recruiting class has received some praise for his play at the adidas Gauntlet over the weekend.

The North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program is off to a nice start in the 2020 recruiting class as they picked up a big commitment a month ago.

On Father’s Day, 2020 center Day’Ron Sharpe offered his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels after taking a visit to Chapel Hill. Sharpe became the first player to verbally commit to UNC in the 2020 class as the prospect was starting to make a name for himself.

After successful AAU sessions in the Spring, Sharpe has elevated his game and place in the recruiting rankings. The North Carolina native is quickly approaching a five-star ranking and currently sits at No. 34 in Rivals’ 2020 player rankings.

With the July evaluation period beginning last week, Sharpe was back in action at the adidas Gauntlet event in New York City as some of the top high school players in the country showcased their skills.

Sharpe played for Garner Roads 16U over the duration of the tournament as UNC assistant Hubert Davis was on hand to watch. The 6-foot-8 big man played well and even earned the praise of a recruiting analyst.

Rivals reporter Eric Bossi had nothing but positive things to say about Sharpe and highlighted him on his Sunday live blog for the tournament.

Here’s what Bossi wrote in his blog:

"Sharpe’s best attribute are his hands. They are strong but he has soft touch with them and when combined with his vision and basketball IQ they allow him to be a skilled post. Yes, he’s plenty big but his passing out of double teams, soft touch to 15 feet and patience are well beyond his years and that of what you would expect from a big man that doesn’t get exposed to that much high level competition."

Bossi also sent out a tweet praising Sharpe’s game and noting that the big man has great hands and feel for the game.

With a lot of elite recruits still uncommitted for the 2019 class and the attention there for programs, it’s nice to know that the Tar Heels have a good start on 2020 as well.

Sharpe will enter his junior year at South Central High School in Winterville, North Carolina as he hopes to continue his strong play. Expect Williams and his staff to continue to watch him this season as he develops even more.
