Day’Ron Sharpe moves up in the latest recruiting rankings from 247 Sports on the 2020 class

The North Carolina Tar Heels landed their first commitment in the 2020 class when Day’Ron Sharpe announced he was verbally committed to UNC. The announcement came as a surprise on Father’s Day and happened when Sharpe was wrapping up an unofficial visit to UNC.

The center wasn’t ranked so high in early rankings but after an impressive sophomore season and AAU sessions, he’s starting to climb the list.

Just a few days ago it was Rivals that bumped up Sharpe on their updated 2020 player rankings and now it’s another outlet doing the same. 247 Sports just released its updated rankings of the top 247 players in the 2020 class, with Sharpe cracking the Top 50 as a four-star recruit.

Sharpe moved up two spots from No. 47 to No. 45 in 247 Sports’ rankings and is ranked No. 68 on the site’s composite rankings.

The Winterville, North Carolina product is considered to be one of the top big men in the class and could be the next elite post player to play at UNC. After Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks graduated in 2017 and Tony Bradley Jr. left early, the Tar Heels needed to reload in the post.

They brought in Sterling Manley, Garrison Brooks and Brandon Huffman in the 2017 class but they will be seniors by the time Sharpe is on campus. That leaves a void in the post where Sharpe could continue the legacy left by previous dominant big men at UNC.

Sharpe will continue to play on the AAU Circuit this Summer before beginning his junior year at South Central High School. If he continues to play at a high level, we could see Sharpe earn a five-star ranking as well as move up even higher on the list.
