The UNC Football program was named in the top five for a three-star wide receiver in Missouri

Over the past few weeks, the North Carolina Tar Heels football program has received a few new commitments from players in the 2019 class. Following the annual “Freak Show” event held on UNC’s campus, the Tar Heels were able to add to their recruiting class by landing camp participants.

UNC has a total of 11 verbal commits in the class, led by running back Josh Henderson who offered his verbal in June. With 11 players as hard commits, the Tar Heels have six on the defensive side, four on the offensive side and a long snapper.

On Saturday, UNC received some good news regarding a big offensive target from the Midwest.

Wide receiver Maurice Massey announced his final five schools Friday afternoon, breaking down his recruitment just a little. Massey took to Twitter to announce that Illinois, Oregon, Ole Miss, Missouri and UNC were his final five:

The three-star receiver is ranked as the 11th-best player in the state of Missouri and the 56th-best wide receiver in the 2019 class. At 6-foot-4, Massey has good size for the receiver position and can be a nice big target in the Tar Heels offense.

This announcement comes just two months after Massey announced he was no longer committed to Iowa State and had re-opened his recruitment.

Massey announced his top five while participating in Nike’s “The Opening” event Friday in Frisco, Texas. The Opening is one of the premiere recruiting events in the country as the top high school football players get to showcase their talents on a big stage.

Class of 2019 verbal commit Emery Simmons is participating in the event as part of Team Elite.

Landing a verbal from the former Indiana commit Simmons was big but now UNC has the chance to get another receiver from the Midwest.
