Coby White was one of the standouts on the USA Basketball U-18 Team that captured gold in Canada.

The Summer is off to a great start for University of North Carolina commit Coby White. Just days before White is set to enroll at UNC for the Summer session, he played a big part in the USA Basketball U-18 Team winning gold in Canada on Saturday.

White and his 11 teammates routed host country Canada 113-74 to capture their fifth straight Gold medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

The team not only went unbeaten in the group stage and knockout round, but they won all of their contests by double-digits including wins of 92 points against Panama and 77 points against Ecuador. There simply just wasn’t much competition in this tournament with the closest game being a 12-point win over Argentina on Friday.

For White, it was the point guard’s chance to show off his skills on the national stage and he did just that.

White averaged 15.3 points per game in the tournament to lead Team USA including a big 25-point performance in the win over Argentina. He scored 11 in the championship game on Saturday.

The 18-year-old UNC commit finished the tournament shooting 41 percent from behind the three-point line as he made 14 of his 34 attempts.

His efforts helped him earn a spot on the All-Tournament team for the event joining teammates Quentin Grimes and UNC recruiting target Cole Anthony.

A few other big UNC recruiting targets were also on the roster in Anthony,  Armando Bacot, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Matthew Hurt.

Both Hurt (20.3)  and Robinson-Earl (19.7)  were among the best on the team in efficiency per game and as well as rebounds per game.

Bacot averaged 7.8 points, 5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game for the tournament. The 2019 recruit is a top choice for both UNC and Duke who appear to be the frontrunners in his recruitment as of now.

Anthony continued his hot play ahead of his senior year. The guard averaged 14.3 points and 4.2 assists in the tournament as his stock continues to rise.

As mentioned before, the next step for White is enrolling at UNC this week where he will join Rechon Black and Nassir Little in his recruiting class. The Tar Heels will begin preparation for the upcoming season with practices in late September ahead of a November tipoff at Wofford.
